| Official Study Title |
Neurobiological Predicators of Huntington's Disease |
| Conditions Studied |
HD gene negative and asymptomatic HD gene positive individuals |
| Purpose |
The intention of the project is to determine what are the earliest
changes in thinking skills, motor function, behavior or brain structure that happen as a person
begins the transition from health to HD the typical rates of change for these measures. |
| Inclusion Criteria |
Participants must be at-risk for developing HD but have not been
diagnosed with manifest HD, have undergone presymptomatic genetic testing (gene positive or
gene negative), are at least 26 years old, are English speakers and have a companion who can
participate in all study visits. |
| Exclusion Criteria |
Persons who have any significant history of central nervous system
disorder, alcohol or drug use within the past year, documented severe learning disability and/or
mental retardation, unstable psychiatric illness or any metallic implants are excluded from
participation. |
| Testing |
Testing includes a neurological exam, cogntive testing, MRIs
(every other year), specimen collection (including genetic testing), behavioral and functional
assessments. |
| Frequency of Visits |
Every year for 4 years, with the option of continuing years 5, 6
and 7. |
| Materials Needed Prior to Evaluation |
Verification that CAG repeat expansion is ≤ 30 or ≥ 39. |
