| Official Study Title |
Isolated Executive Impairment and Cognitive Decline |
| Conditions Studied |
Executive MCI, Amnestic MCI and Normals |
| Purpose |
The purpose of this research project is to test the
hypothesis that an isolated impairment of frontal-executive function in Mild Cognitive
Impairment (MCI) individuals will predict future cognitive decline, functional impairment
and frontal brain atrophy. |
| Inclusion Criteria |
Subjects must be between the ages of 45-80 and meet
criteria for executive MCI, amenstic MCI or normal. They must be fluent in English, have
adequate visual and auditory acuity, and have the ability to undergo extensive psychometric
testing. Subjects must also have a reliable informant who has frequent contact with the subject
and would be available to provide information about the subject. |
| Exclusion Criteria |
History of head trauma (with a loss of consciousness greater than
10 minutes), brain tumor, white matter disease (Longstreth > 5), neurologic or MRI findings
of stroke, seizures or other neurological conditions. Current history of a major psychiatric
condition, DSM-IV dementia diagnosis, ferromagnetic material (in soft tissue), pacemaker, drug
or alcohol abuse, or medications that can affect cognition. Also, current history of significant
cardiac, pulmonary, hematologic or metabolic illnesses (B12, thyroid) are exclusionary as well. |
| Testing |
Neuropsychological, clinical, functional and neuroimaging tests
and bloodwork. |
| Frequency of Visits |
Participants will be followed on an annual basis. |
| Materials Needed Prior to Evaluation |

Parking Garage for all study visits. |
