Genetic Counseling
The UCSF Neurogenetics Cognitive & Movement Disorder Clinic helps patients who may have a genetic or familial history of disease.

The UCSF Memory and Aging Center’s Outpatient Genetic Counseling Clinic provides genetic counseling to patients and families with or at risk for an inherited neurodegenerative disease. The clinic is appropriate for people with a diagnosis who seek genetic testing to determine a cause for symptoms and clarify risk for family members. The clinic is also appropriate for healthy people with no diagnosis who seek genetic testing to determine future risk for an inherited neurodegenerative disease.

Services

  • Pre-test and post-test genetic counseling
  • Ordering of certain genetic tests, if appropriate

Adult Populations (18 years old and older)

Individuals with or without a diagnosis and family history of:

Individuals Under Age 18

Referrals to confirm or exclude juvenile Huntington’s disease

Referral Indications

  • You suspect your patient has an inherited form of dementia or neurodegenerative condition
  • You suspect your patient’s family member has an inherited form of dementia or neurodegenerative condition
  • Your patient has a family member who was diagnosed with an inherited form of dementia or neurodegenerative condition
  • Your patient has limited information about family history and is concerned about an inherited form of dementia or neurodegenerative condition
