"This building offers an unprecedented opportunity to bring under one roof some of the world’s top scientists studying complex neurological diseases, allowing them to share their expertise, strategize and collaborate in a way they cannot when spread out on different campuses and in different buildings," says UCSF Chancellor Sue Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH. "This approach will accelerate research discoveries and drive them toward patient care."

The planned five-story Neurosciences Research Building, to be located on the north side of the Koret Quad, will house about 100 principal investigators and more than 500 additional researchers and staff working in clinical and research programs of the UCSF Department of Neurology, the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND), and the W.M. Keck Foundation Center for Integrative Neuroscience. The upper floors will provide ample laboratory space for basic research on the causes of neurodegenerative diseases and a vigorous clinical research program seeking treatments for these diseases. The first floor will be occupied by clinicians and clinical researchers of the UCSF Memory and Aging Center. As patients enjoy first-rate medical care in the new building, they will be accelerating the process of discovering cures.
