Activities for Aging Neurogenesis (ActAN) Study

Summary

Purpose of the Study

This is an intervention-based study looking at the relationship between lifestyle factors and protein markers of neural functioning.

Study Details

Inclusion Criteria: Volunteers between the ages 50–85 with minor or no memory problems who exercise less than 2hrs/week and are involved in the Healthy Aging study

Exclusion Criteria: Significant memory problems, diagnosis of a neurodegenerative disease, major psychiatric disorder or abuse of drugs/alcohol

What to Expect

Testing: Computer-based and tablet tests measuring attention and reaction time, paper and pencil cognitive testing, fasting blood draw, wearing FitBit, training program

Frequency of Visits: Two visits before and after intervention, 6 weeks apart (1½ hours of testing and 1-hour condition orientation, questionnaires and blood draw)

Materials Needed Before Evaluation: None

Costs: No costs will be charged for any of the study procedures. Parking will be validated for the 1625 Owens Street Garage or 1630 Third Street Garage at the UCSF Mission Bay campus for all study visits. There is no monetary compensation for participation.
