Undergraduate Research Associate

February 12, 2020
Memory and Aging Center

The UCSF Memory and Aging Center seeks to provide a research opportunity for an undergraduate student who belongs to a group that is underrepresented in the health sciences. (The working definition of underrepresented in the health sciences at UCSF encompasses students who are of: African-American/Black, Filipino, Hmong, Vietnamese, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander descent.) This position would provide an enriching experience in dementia care and research, as well as opportunities for direct interaction with patients and their caregivers.

Primary responsibilities will include data management, collaboration with various research groups within the Memory and Aging Center to coordinate participant recruitment and data collection, conducting literature reviews, and performing administrative tasks as needed. Students will receive hands-on training and mentorship from researchers, but are expected to take initiative on projects and have the ability to work independently as well.

We plan to utilize a National Institutes of Health Diversity Supplement, which we were successful in obtaining for our candidate last year; we will work collaboratively with the prospective candidate to prepare this application. We envision a 30–40 hours/week commitment during Summer 2020 and 2021, with 5–15 hours/week (flexible depending on class schedule) during academic year 2020-2021, and opportunities to continue beyond Summer 2021 as mutually desired. The position will be paid as Research Associate (Junior Specialist), currently projected at $20.26/hr.

Highly motivated college sophomores and juniors who are interested in clinical research and dementia care are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with standard productivity software (e.g., Excel, Word, Google Docs) and be able to manage data in an organized and conscientious manner. We are particularly interested in students who are fluent in Spanish, though this is not a strict requirement.

Interested candidates should send an up-to-date CV along with a cover letter detailing your interests and pertinent experiences to Madhu Manivannan ([email protected]). Please also feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the position or would like more guidance regarding the process.
