| Official Study Title |
Cholinergic Modulation of Top-Down Visual Processing
in Individuals With Mild Cognitive Impairment |
| Conditions Studied |
Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) |
| Purpose |
This is a research study designed to better understand the impact
of manipulating the cholinergic system on memory and
attention processes in individuals with Mild Cognitive
Impairment (MCI). It will involve 3 months of treatment
with donepezil or placebo and 3 functional MRI scans
at UC Berkeley (at study onset, one month and three months after the onset). |
| Inclusion Criteria |
Over 55 years of age, cognitive complaints, decline in abilites
over last several years, objective signs of cognitive impairment, willingness to have three
functional MRI scans over three months, willingess to be in a blinded
study in which they may take three months of placebo |
| Exclusion Criteria |
Any neurological
disease including dementia, current treatment with AD
meds, anything that excludes MRI (e.g., claustrophobia, metal in body) |
| Testing |
Battery of neuropsyhological tests and fMRI at UC Berkeley |
| Frequency of Visits |
3 visits: start of study, one month and then at three months |
| Materials Needed Prior to Evaluation |
Phone interview |
