Postdoctoral Positions in Neuropsychology

October 7, 2022
Memory and Aging Center
Full-time

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is offering Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowships for 2023. We are looking for candidates invested in a scientist-practitioner model and have the flexibility to design the fellowship around the individual fellow’s training needs and goals. The Neuropsychology Training Program is led by Joel H. Kramer, PsyD, ABPP-CN, often with multiple neuropsychology faculty offering fellowship tracks in any given year. Additional mentoring from other neuropsychology and neurology faculty is available and encouraged. The amount of research versus clinical training can be tailored to the needs of individual Fellows Postdoctoral fellows with an interest in clinical training typically spend approximately 60–80% of their time engaged in research activities, 20–30% in clinical activities, and the rest of their time in training, supervision, supervising predoctoral trainees, and a wide variety of didactic opportunities. See below for research opportunities. This page will be updated with any additional faculty members seeking Postdoctoral Fellows.

The ideal candidate:

  • a) has clinical and research experience and has begun to develop his/her research training;
  • b) is interested in specializing in cognitive aging and neurodegenerative diseases;
  • c) is committed to clinical excellence, and
  • d) is eager to develop an independent scientist-practitioner academic career.

About the MAC

The MAC is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for individuals with cognitive problems, researching the causes and cures for degenerative brain diseases, and educating health professionals, patients and their families. Multidisciplinary research and clinical opportunities will range from age-associated brain changes to typical (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease) and atypical (e.g., frontotemporal dementia, primary progressive aphasias, corticobasal syndrome, prion disease) neurodegenerative syndromes. Research opportunities will be related to specific openings in the labs listed below, though fellows are encouraged to collaborate across labs and PIs.

Research Labs

This section will be updated with any additional faculty members seeking Postdoctoral Fellows.

The following primary research mentors will be offering a position for 2023:

  • Kaitlin Casaletto, PhD, ABBP-CN: aims to understand biologic and behavioral factors that drive cognitive resilience against brain aging and neurodegeneration. Our work leverages lifestyle behaviors as a tool to understand brain health, with a focus on identifying underlying biological mechanisms and precision approaches to behavioral intervention. We focus on disease-agnostic targets (e.g., synaptic functioning, immunologic functioning, vascular health) as bridging biologies for cognitive resilience. Ongoing studies include a large, longitudinal cohort of deeply phenotyped older adults, including actigraphy monitoring (Fitbit), a randomized controlled trial of lifestyle behaviors (ActAN Study), and often leverages advanced biofluid marker experiments (plasma, CSF, exosome). We are seeking curious, interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellows to contribute to ongoing clinical research and pursue related areas of their own focus. The ideal candidate has clinical research experience, demonstrated research productivity, and is interested in specializing in cognitive aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Training in one or more of the following areas may be most aligned, though not necessary: neuropsychology, epidemiology, cognitive neuroscience, and/or biostatistics. Applicants with interest and/or experience working with wearable data, proteomics, and applying big data analytic approaches are encouraged. Contact: [email protected]

Applications

Please submit a cover letter, CV and three letters of recommendation to Shannon Lee, at [email protected].  Please indicate which lab(s) you are applying to in your cover letter. Please submit your materials by November 1, 2022.
