The Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health program at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) offers innovative training, networking, and support to emerging leaders dedicated to enhancing brain health and reducing the impact of dementia in their local communities and globally. It is one of seven global Atlantic Fellows programs.
Through the Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health program, GBHI brings together a powerful mix of disciplines, professions, backgrounds, skill sets, perspectives, and approaches to develop new solutions. Atlantic Fellows come from many different professional backgrounds, including clinical practice, social sciences, arts, economics, public health, research, policy, and education.
The program is founded on GBHI’s values—authenticity, fairness, openness, respect, courage, and empathy (A FORCE)—and a commitment to embodying these values in practice and inspiring them in others. The values are considered in every aspect of the program—from the curriculum to the clinical experiences.
Atlantic Fellows at GBHI participate in the program for 12 months, either through a hybrid program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), or through a residential program at the Trinity College Dublin (Trinity) campus. Fellows engage in a broad base of content related to brain health, dementia, and health equity. Additionally, through observational and case-based learning, they gain insight into the lived experience of people with dementia in clinical and community-based settings and engage in projects aimed at advancing brain health. Through intensive mentoring, fellows are guided in the development of their projects, careers, and leadership. They also have the opportunity to apply for competitively awarded funding for pilot projects.
After the fellowship, Atlantic Fellows continue to have access to career-duration mentoring, funding opportunities, and an international network of colleagues collaborating to drive a common mission.
