Anup Sonti, MD, is a clinical fellow at the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center, part of the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. His research focuses on advancing precision medicine for neurodegenerative disorders through multimodal data integration. He combines whole-genome sequencing, neuropathology, neuroimaging, fluid biomarkers, and deep clinical phenotyping to identify the genetic and biological drivers of disease heterogeneity, improve disease classification, and characterize biomarkers of disease progression. His clinical and research interests span the spectrum of neurodegenerative dementias, with particular emphasis on atypical and early-onset dementias, including early-onset Alzheimer's disease, inherited neurodegenerative disorders, leukodystrophies, and rapidly progressive dementias, particularly prion diseases. His long-term goal is to develop biomarker-driven approaches that accelerate precision medicine and therapeutic development.
A Bay Area native, Dr. Sonti earned a bachelor's degree in cell biology from the University of California, Davis, where research on traumatic brain injury sparked his interest in neurology. He then completed a Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, where he studied the role of adult neurogenesis in mood and behavior. Sonti received his medical degree from the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and completed an adult neurology residency at Los Angeles General Medical Center and the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where he served as chief resident. During residency, his research on autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease further strengthened his interest in neurodegenerative disorders.
