Jana Klein

Jana’s life is a continuous discovery of new passions and interests. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Jana’s passion for the outdoors, adventure and curiosity was determined at birth. In between camping and fishing with her family, she competed on a high level on the junior tennis circuit and eventually became a recruited athlete to Cornell University. This is where she found her passion for genetics and how this science impacts people and their lives. She went on to the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health and completed a Master of Science in genetic counseling. In various capacities, she has been a part of teams at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Alta Bates Hospital and California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). Jana became interested in stem cell science and in 2006, joined Cord Blood Registry, working on clinical trials and other research activities. She is also very interested in personalized genomics and has consulted for various laboratories doing work in this space. 

In 2021, Jana joined the ALBA Lab which resides within the UCSF Memory and Aging Center. She is the operations and development manager, which involves supporting all ALBA lab initiatives, and works closely with various philanthropic supporters of ALBA. In this capacity, Jana uses her background in science and her people and management skills to help the ALBA lab run efficiently and create a welcoming and positive atmosphere for the staff and the patients and research participants we serve. 

Outside of work, Jana and her family enjoy volunteering at Glide Memorial kitchen, she is a Board member of the Cornell Tennis Alumni association, an active volunteer with the United States Tennis Association and on committees in her neighborhood in SF. Jana has twins, a son and a daughter. She loves to ski, try new restaurants, play tennis and hang out with the two family dogs.
