Purpose of the Study

The MULTIVERSE research project explores the role of bilingualism in cognitive reserve by studying three socio-demographically and linguistically diverse cohorts: Chinese Americans, Mexican Americans, and Indians.

Through a collaborative effort between the University of California, San Francisco; the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences; and the Health and Aging Brain-Health Disparities Study, this project aims to establish one of the largest multicultural and multilingual cohorts of 2,200 individuals. By assembling this well-characterized cohort, researchers seek to develop a theoretical framework for understanding how bilingualism contributes to cognitive reserve.
