Victor Valcour, MD, PhD, is a professor of medicine at UCSF with appointments in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and the Department of Neurology. A specialist in geriatric medicine and neurobehavioral care, Dr. Valcour is dedicated to improving brain health and cognitive care for aging populations worldwide. He directs the Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health program at UCSF, a global initiative that trains leaders across disciplines to address the challenges of dementia and promote equity in brain health.
Dr. Valcour earned his undergraduate degree in education and medical degree from the University of Vermont. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, followed by fellowships in geriatric medicine at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and neurobehavioral medicine at UCSF. In recognition of his international research on HIV and brain function, Dr. Valcour received a PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2013.
At the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center, Dr. Valcour’s work encompasses research, clinical care, and mentorship. His research focuses on building global capacity for dementia care, with projects spanning Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Through the Atlantic Fellows program, Dr. Valcour mentors individuals from diverse backgrounds—including physicians, scientists, and artists—who share a commitment to reducing the global impact of dementia. With more than 300 fellows in 62 countries, the program fosters collaboration and innovation in brain health.
