Camellia Latta

Camellia Latta is the Program Director for Alumni Relations & Special Initiatives at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) UCSF site. She leads alumni relations work at GBHI to advance a global network of brain health leaders as Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health. She also manages the partnership with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and UCSF (GBHI and UCSF Memory and Aging Center), and she is a flutist in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Camellia comes to GBHI with a background in human rights and extensive experience managing networks and partnerships at philanthropic and nonprofit organizations. She enjoys connecting stakeholders, sparking conversations, sustaining relationships, and bridging cross-community dialogue to help vulnerable communities, including through music. Before joining GBHI, Camellia managed strategic initiatives for a national philanthropic network, Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees. She also worked on a demographics project at the Stanford Center on Longevity and advanced social justice efforts in her roles at the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies – UC Hastings College of the Law, the Sandler Foundation, the Open Society Foundations (New York), and Parliamentarians for Global Action (New York). She conducted research at UN Women, the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, and the Foundation for International Dignity in Sierra Leone.

Camellia is also a flutist in the San Francisco Bay Area, has served as a grants panelist twice with the San Francisco Arts Commission and is a co-founder of the Neighborhood Performance Project fiscally-sponsored by Intersection for the Arts. She is classically trained in flute and also improvises, performing at community events in San Francisco.

Camellia received a bachelor’s degree with honors in history and feminist studies from Stanford University. She also studied flute performance at Stanford under the instruction of the music faculty. Camellia holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University and completed graduate coursework at the University of Notre Dame. Camellia joined the GBHI alumni team in August 2018.
