Shubir Dutt, PhD, is an assistant professor in the UCSF Department of Neurology at the Weill Institute for Neurosciences and a licensed clinical neuropsychologist at the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center. Dr. Dutt specializes in the assessment and care of patients with cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), frontotemporal lobar degeneration spectrum disorders (FTLD), and other neurodegenerative conditions.
Dr. Dutt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in cognitive science from the University of California, Berkeley, and his doctorate in clinical psychology, with a focus on neuropsychology and geropsychology, from the University of Southern California. He completed his predoctoral internship and a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at UCSF, where he developed expertise in integrating clinical evaluations with advanced imaging and biomarker analyses to better understand preclinical risk factors for neurodegenerative diseases.
At the Fein Memory and Aging Center Clinic, Dr. Dutt provides neuropsychological evaluations for patients and supervises trainees, including neuropsychology fellows, residents, and students, across clinical and research programs. He plays a key role in the UCSF Neuropsychology Training Program, where he leads didactic sessions and mentors trainees as they develop their skills in cognitive assessment and care for individuals with neurodegenerative disorders.
Dr. Dutt’s research bridges clinical neuropsychology with advanced scientific methods, using multimodal approaches—including imaging techniques and biofluid marker analyses—to identify early risk factors and mechanisms underlying AD, FTLD, and related conditions. His work aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and inform the development of new treatment strategies for patients facing these challenging diseases.
