The fellowship welcomes experienced professionals from a wide range of disciplines, including health care, research, public health, policy, education, the arts, journalism, engineering, business, and community leadership. Applicants should have completed the highest level of education or professional training they intend to pursue in their field and demonstrate a commitment to advancing brain health equity.

No. Applicants are not required to submit an English language proficiency certificate. However, all coursework and fellowship activities are conducted in English, so strong written and spoken English skills are essential.

No. Applicants may apply to only one fellowship site during each application cycle. Review both programs carefully and choose the site that best aligns with your professional goals, availability, and preferred learning format.

Applicants must submit two letters of support that demonstrate leadership potential and a long-term commitment to advancing brain health in their communities. At least one letter should come from a current or former employer, institution, organization, or professional collaborator.

No. Deferrals are not available. If you are unable to participate in the fellowship year for which you applied, you are welcome to apply again in a future application cycle.

The UCSF program follows a global hybrid model. Fellows participate in interactive online learning throughout the year, attend three required international in-person learning intensives, and spend time at UCSF for a residential learning experience that includes clinical observation, research engagement, and community-building activities.

The fellowship is designed for working professionals and is completed part-time over one year. Fellows participate in weekly live online sessions, independent learning, regular mentor meetings, three required international in-person learning intensives, and activities during their residential learning experience at UCSF. They also develop a pilot project proposal during the program.

All fellows participate in a required residential learning experience at UCSF that includes clinical observation, research engagement, educational activities, and community-building opportunities.

The fellowship does not provide a cost-of-living stipend while fellows are based in their home communities. However, required program travel, accommodations, and learning materials are covered. Fellows receive a stipend to help cover living expenses during their residential learning experience at UCSF.

Yes. Fellows may choose to relocate with family members during their time at UCSF at their own expense. Fellows are responsible for arranging any required visas and accommodations.

Graduates join a lifelong global community of Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health and the broader Atlantic Fellows network. Fellows continue to collaborate, learn, mentor one another, and advance brain health equity through an international community of leaders.
