Sherry Chen, MD, PhD

Sherry Chen
Postdoctoral Scholar

Dr. Yu (Sherry) Chen is a neurologist and cognitive neuroscientist with clinical and research expertise in the neural mechanisms of social and cognitive dysfunction in neurological disorders. She earned her MBBS and MD degrees from Capital Medical University in Beijing, China, before completing her Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Sydney under Dr. Olivier Piguet, where her work established the cerebellum’s role in cognition and social behavior in frontotemporal dementia. Her research integrates clinical insight with advanced neuroimaging and network neuroscience approaches, including lesion-based models spanning cerebellar stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Currently an Assistant Professional Researcher at the UCSF MAC based in the Socioemotional Neuropsychological Research Group under the mentorship of Dr. Kate Rankin, Dr. Chen investigates how cerebellar-cerebral network disruptions contribute to cognitive and socioemotional symptoms in dementia, with the goal of improving early diagnosis and developing targeted interventions.
