Fade Chen (they/them), PhD, is a data analyst at UC San Francisco in the NeuroAI Lab at the Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center. They earned their doctorate in cognition and perception from New York University, where they studied under the guidance of Dr. David Poeppel. Dr. Chen’s research investigates how semantic structures influence human memory and meaning-making, using computational tools to gain insights into language processing. Their work on noun composition and false memory has identified principles governing how people construct and retrieve meaning in natural language.

At UCSF, Dr. Chen applies artificial intelligence to analyze language patterns, advancing clinical understanding of communication and contributing to broader societal impacts. Their current focus is on leveraging AI to better classify language-related phenomena, with the goal of improving patient care and expanding knowledge of human cognition.

In addition to their academic pursuits, Dr. Chen enjoys hiking, electronic music, and creating sculptures. They bring creativity and curiosity to both their professional and personal endeavors, embodying a commitment to innovation and meaningful contribution.
