
Jana Klein
Jana has continuously explored new passions and interests throughout her life. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, her love for the outdoors and adventure was evident from an early age. Between camping and fishing with her family, she competed at a high level in the junior tennis circuit, eventually becoming a recruited athlete at Cornell University. It was there that she discovered her passion for genetics and its impact on people’s lives.
Jana earned her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health. She has been part of teams at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Alta Bates Hospital, and California Pacific Medical Center. Her interest in stem cell science led her to join Cord Blood Registry in 2006, where she worked on clinical trials and other research activities. Jana is also deeply involved in personalized genomics, having consulted for various laboratories in this field.
In 2021, Jana joined the ALBA Language Neurobiology Lab at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, supporting lab initiatives and collaborating closely with philanthropic supporters. In 2025, she also joined the Tee Lab as operations manager. In this capacity, Jana leverages her scientific background and management skills to ensure the lab operates efficiently, fostering a welcoming and positive atmosphere for staff, patients, and research participants.
Outside of work, Jana and her family volunteer at Glide Memorial Kitchen. She is a board member of the Cornell Tennis Alumni Association, an active volunteer with the United States Tennis Association, and serves on committees in her San Francisco neighborhood. Jana has twins, a son and a daughter. She enjoys skiing, exploring new restaurants, playing tennis, and spending time with her two family dogs.
