Sean Coulborn, PhD, is an assistant professional researcher in the Rabinovici Lab at the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center, part of the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. His research combines multiple types of brain imaging with clinical and biological measures to better understand how brain function and disease-related changes are associated with symptoms and outcomes in psychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions.
Before joining the Rabinovici Lab, Sean completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Perry Lab at UCSF. There, he used clinical and brain imaging data to study factors associated with cognitive decline and survival in people with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD).
Previously, Sean conducted postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley, where he studied the brain mechanisms involved in decision-making and their relationship to symptoms of mental health conditions. He earned his PhD in psychology from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, where he used multiple brain imaging methods and noninvasive brain stimulation to investigate the neural basis of consciousness.
