Lawren VandeVrede, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of neurology at the UCSF Edward and Pearl Fein Memory and Aging Center, specializing in the care of patients with dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders. His overarching goal is to provide exceptional clinical care to individuals living with memory disorders while advancing research that improves understanding and treatment of these conditions.
Dr. VandeVrede earned his medical degree and PhD in neuroscience from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, where his doctoral research focused on developing novel therapeutic agents for Alzheimer’s disease. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by neurology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and fellowship training in behavioral neurology at the UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center.
Dr. VandeVrede’s research centers on improving diagnostic tools and designing innovative clinical trials for patients with neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. His work aims to uncover key mechanisms of these disorders to inform therapeutic development and enhance care for patients and families.
Through his research and clinical efforts, Dr. VandeVrede is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to the specific needs of patients and their caregivers, while also supporting the development of new treatments to improve outcomes for future generations.
